('The Lady Luck')
Original Icon - Halloween Horror Nights XXI (2011)
Lady Luck has been associated with Tyche, the Greek goddess of luck. She is also based on Fortuna, the Roman Goddess, who had two faces. Throughout history, Fortuna is often represented with a wheel of fortune. The spinning wheel and the Ace of Spades, or "Death Card" are symbols associated with Lady Luck at Halloween Horror Nights 21. Lady Luck is a "shape shifting" entity who has appeared throughout time. She is present during times when people are faced with choices or when people are taking chances. The Lady Luck, like Fortuna, also has two faces. She can appear to be beautiful and tempting. She can also appear as a monster. Her true face is that of an evil, unsufferable monster who eats people.
As fate would have it, Lady Luck does not impart good luck on her victims. Instead, Lady Luck actually causes the worst to happen when those she tempts make the "wrong choice".
Halloween Horror Nights 21 is about the "chances" certain individuals have taken in the past. Lady Luck was always present.
"Luck, or more precisely, The Lady Luck - is an evil, insufferable monster who eats people. Lady Luck is only interested in turns in people's lives that bring them pain, misfortune, despair, and inevitably death. Ya fall off a jungle gym...as a child....The Lady Luck was there. It has never been about the dice you throw, the cards you play, or the wheel that spins. Those are simply modern tools that she uses to seduce more fools to play along with her...the only thing that matters is whether or not she's standing by your side."
"I'd like to take some time to introduce myself - I bring you choice and fate. I was there when man first tasted fruit served up on a golden plate. He had his choice and made it. All I did was wait."
The "backstory" of Lady Luck can be discovered in the documents filed by Commonwealth Estates Development. Commonwealth Estates Development was charged with "cleaning up" the site of Shady Brook Rest Home and Sanitarium so it could be put back on the market.
Shady Brook was a mental hospital. It was notorious for being overrun by the inmates. (Shady Brook served as the location of the PsychoScareapy mazes featured at Halloween Horror Nights in previous years.)
SBRH & S has a history of suicide, murder, human experimentation, and inmate uprisings. The first major inmate uprising in Shady Brook's history was in 2003, when an inmate stabbed a guard with a fork. On October 13, 2004, Shady Brook admitted a man named Jeffery Dietze, who had gone insane following his discovery of the gruesome secret of the Horror in Wax facility he had recently inherited.
In 2006, SNRH & S welcomed the arrival of John "Jack" Schmidt. Schmidt was a murderer. He had also been convicted of arson and terror. Jack incited an uprising that not only enabled his escape, but also helpd to cause more damage to the hospital's reputation.
In 2007 (PsychoScareapy 3: Home for the Holidays), an entire bus full of inmates escaped from SBRH & S on Christmas Eve. Over 25 people were killed by the escaped lunatics.
Shady Brook Rest Home and Sanitarium was eventually shut down due to its horrendous security record. Due to its violent history, there are rumors that the abandoned building is haunted. In 2010, the Legendary Truth: Awakening team investigated the run down hospital. Apparitions caught on tape were sent to the Legendary Truth sight to be analyzed.
Before Shady Brook was shut down, it housed a man named Floyd Mercer. This begins Shady Brook's connection with Halloween Horror Nights 21. Floyd Mercer's fateful encounter with Lady Luck began when Floyd was out having some fun gambling with a friend named Benny. Benny & Floyd had won a card game......with Lady Luck by their side.
Floyd's story took a turn for the worst when he managed to see Lady Luck transform into a carnivourous succubus. He watched in terror as the beast feasted on Benny in a back alley. Floyd also saw other humanoid "entities" that accompanied Lady Luck. These entities had human bodies and faces that were covered in scars. The scars resembled spades. These are Lady Luck's past victims...her minions....her possessions...her playthings! She is not content to simply eat her victims. She must also enslave them.
Floyd escaped his encounter with Lady Luck. He eventually faked his own insanity in order to get away from the carnivorous shapeshifter. He thought he would be safe in Shady Brook Rest Home & Sanitarium! However, Lady Luck had managed to overtake his dreams.
"SHE IS A MONSTER
SHE IS CHOICE.
SHE IS COMING.
THERE IS NO ESCAPE
EXCEPT THE ONE I'M TAKING."
Floyd hung himself in order to escape from her.
Here are the documents (memos, paper clippings and a journal) found on or near his body when he was found dead in Shady Brook. Floyd Mercer's writings document his fear filled spiral towards suicide.
Here are the detailed connections between Lady Luck and the 8 HHN 21 mazes:
All of the mazes at Halloween Horror Nights 21 have a connection to this year's icon, Lady Luck. Those connections were hinted at in the games on the main website.
Individuals who attended one of HHN 2011's guided RIP tours or a Behind The Screams tour were given some further insight into the intricate web that connects the 2011 mazes and the story of Lady Luck.
The HHN 21 mazes show the results of "choices" that were made by certain individuals. Lady Luck was present, in one form or another, when each of the choices was made.

Columbus leads the expedition and Cabot captains the 4th ship. Cabot and the crew aboard the 4th ship become angry at the decision and decide to mutiny against Columbus. The 3 remaining ships sink the Philippa Muniz. They all sign a pact to never speak of the incident. It is now 100 years later in 1592. He was never adopted by the Allen family after the death of his parents. He was very close to them and he eventually took the name Edgar Allen Poe. He was a pioneer American writer. He moved around the country and eventually settled in Baltimore at the age of 26. He married his 13 year old cousin, Virginia. Virginia died of TB at a young age. Her death is thought to have influenced many of Poe's works. A day before his death in 1849, Poe was found disoriented and wandering the streets mumbling madly about "Reynolds". No one knows who this individual was and Poe died mysteriously a day later....presumably from his madness.
The choice in Poe's life came when he had to decide where he would move next. He had the choice to move to Boston or he could move to Baltimore, where he had some family and connections. The person who sold Poe the ticket that led him to Baltimore was...LADY LUCK. His choice led to his madness.

Jonathan was so distraught that he took his own life on the third anniversay of his weife's death. Malcom Trumbull took over the caretaker and funeral director duties of the cemetery. He was succeeded by his son in the 1930's.
